The Owl Killers, Karen Maitland
Loved it. Set in England in 1312 it follows an establishment of flemish Beguines in a fictional country village. If you don’t know anything about the Dark Ages (like me!) don’t be put off. Karen Maitland writes really earthy stories, very sense orientated, so her story telling is a real pleasure to be lost in. Tales of women in history, religious devotion, witchcraft, pagan festivals, village life, murder mysteries, cults, mythology…
