The Master and Margarita

by Charlotte Reads Classics

The Master and Margarita, Mikhail Bulgakov

 Manuscripts don’t burn.

A satire of 1930s Moscow / Russian atheism / love / religious philosophy

This was a challenging read, but a rewarding one. It is the kind of book that has made such an impact on literary culture so is full of references that are fun to pick up on.

Basically: Satan comes to Moscow and wreaks amusing but often sinister havoc with his band of demons. Also in the midst of this there are novels about Pontius Pilate and a love story.
