Back to the Classics Challenge 2012
by Charlotte Reads Classics
I’m very excited about this challenge, hosted by Sarah Reads Too Much. So I’ve made my list already. It might change between now and January but I’ve tried to pick books I’ve wanted to read for ages so this should be pretty much it.
- A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (19th Century classic)
- Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf (20th Century classic)
- Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (Reread a classic)
- Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare (Classic play)
- The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins (Classic mystery/ horror/ crime)
- Middlemarch by George Eliot (Classic romance)
- Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman (Translated classic)
- The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy (Award winning classic)
- The Odyssey by Homer (Classic set in a country I’m unlikely to visit)
I’ll probably be reading all but 2 of these in 2012!! (All but Galsworthy and Grossman.) I posted about a second Classics Challenge over at my place today. You might like it. I’d post it her, but I don’t know if posting a link would send this comment to SPAM…
Yay Classics Challenges!
Excellent – I love your list for this challenge so I’ll definitely check out the second one. There is something so satisfying about writing out reading lists!
What a great list! 🙂 Mrs. Dalloway is amazing!
Brilliant! I had a bit of a brain freeze about Virginia Woolf for ages until I read To The Lighthouse – which I adored… So I’m looking forward to reading more.
Thank you so much for joining in the Challenge! You have a great list going here…. I’ve been thinking about Virginia Woolf as well, but not sure yet. There are so many to choose from!
Thank you for hosting it – it’s a great challenge and I love the categories. I’ve really enjoyed coming up with the list.
Oh, good list! I really want to read Twelfth Night, and I’m thinking The Woman in White might be a fall read next year.
