Quote for the Day
by Charlotte Reads Classics
I had no epiphany, no singular revelation, no moment of truth, but a steady accumulation of a thousand slights, a thousand indignities and a thousand unremembered moments produced in me an anger, a rebelliousness, a desire to fight the system that imprisoned my people. There was no particular day on which I said, Henceforth I will devote myself to the liberation of my people; instead, I simply found myself doing so, and could not do otherwise.
Nelson Mandela, A Long Walk to Freedom
Very poignant passage- well done
Thank you, its one of my favourite passages that I have read so far.
Wonderful quote to ponder today – thank you so much for sharing it with us.
What an inspiration!
Really like this! Great insight to a great man
Me too, I think its one of my favourite quotes.
Interesting that following those thousands of slights and that anger, he would go on to have thousands of thoughts and many insights through all those years of imprisonment that lead him to develop extraordinary empathy with his oppressors to the point that his anger was replaced with that empathy and none could really fight against the incredible reasonable man he had become with such profound understanding of his opposition. Truly a great role model for all.
Totally agree, the very best of humanity that very few could emulate.
